Dr. Keith Klostermann

Internationally recognized behavioral couples therapy expert and Fulbright Specialist Keith Klostermann, Ph.D., LMFT, LMHC, an associate professor in the Department of Social Sciences, Communication & Sport Studies, recently co-authored a manuscript entitled “Deliberate Practice Makes Perfect: Improving Therapist Effectiveness.” Dr. Klostermann collaborated with clinical mental health counseling program alumna and clinical psychology doctoral program (PsyD) student Emma Papagni ’17, along with local psychologist Theresa Mignone, Ph.D., to write the article, which was published in The Journal of Addiction Research and Adolescent Behaviour.

The Journal of Addiction Research and Adolescent Behaviour is a peer-reviewed, open access journal that aims to publish scholarly articles describing clinical examinations, investigative studies and practices related to etiology, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of addiction and adolescent behavior diseases.

Dr. Klostermann also recently had work published in The Handbook of Systemic Family Therapy, Volume 3, Systemic Family Therapy With Couples. He co-authored the chapter on "Couple Interventions for Alcohol Use Disorders" with Timothy O'Farrell, Pd.D., from Harvard University. The Handbook of Systemic Family Therapy, Volume 3, Systemic Family Therapy With Couples was developed in partnership with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), and it serves clinicians, such as couple, marital and family therapists, counselors, psychologists, social workers and psychiatrists. It will also benefit researchers, educators and graduate students involved in marriage and family therapy training.

In addition to the recent publications, Dr. Klostermann was selected as the recipient of the 2021 International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors (IAMFC) Outstanding Practitioner Award. Dr. Klostermann was selected based on his commitment to the values of IAMFC and the profession through both his clinical and academic pursuits. He will formally receive the award at the 2021 IAMFC virtual conference later this year.
