Medaille College & PMI Buffalo Partner to Create Workforce Development Opportunities in Western New York

Posted by Medaille College Office of Communications

Medaille College and the Project Management Institute (PMI)®, Buffalo, NY, Chapter (PMI Buffalo) have established a partnership to bring high-quality project management certification training and innovative workforce development opportunities to the Western New York region. Given the rapid growth of the project management field and the bottom-line impact project managers have on organizations, this partnership will benefit WNY businesses and the continued professional development of the greater Buffalo professional community.

“To stay competitive in today’s business environment, organizations must be agile enough to change and adapt quickly, and the evolving field of project management has played a large role in that,” says Medaille Senior Adjunct Professor and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center Executive IT Program Manager Adam Lange, MBA, PMP, ’16. Lange oversees Medaille’s project management training course and its MBA project management concentration. He has an extensive background in project management and leadership, and was recently nominated as president of PMI Buffalo for 2022.

“Organizational change comes in many different forms, from department-level process improvements to enterprise-wide projects,” says Lange. “While project size and type will be unique, building organizational capacity to complete change effectively is a universal need that has played a big role in the growth of the project management field. Project managers are master change agents who ensure strategy turns into tangible benefits that improve the company’s bottom line.”

The Project Management Institute (PMI)® — the world’s largest project management member association — recently recognized Medaille College as an Authorized Training Partner, a newly revamped distinction reserved for organizations that have met PMI’s rigorous standards for quality and effectiveness. Authorized Training Partners have been approved to help project managers achieve the Project Management Professional (PMP)® and other PMI professional credentials.

According to PMI’s most recent Project Management Salary Survey, the median salary for PMP® holders in the U.S. is 25% higher than the salary for projects managers without PMP® certification. With the new partnership, Medaille will now serve as the exclusive provider of PMP® certification training courses to PMI Buffalo members and prospective PMI Buffalo members. These certification training courses, which are also open to the broader Buffalo business community, provide participants with the project management education and training hours required for the PMP® or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® licensure exams.

“The PMP certification is so much more than the letters that follow your name,” says Seneca Gaming Corporation Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer Renita DiStefano, MBA, CISSP, CISM, CISA, CGEIT ’13, ’15. DiStefano is a Medaille graduate and a member of the College’s Department of Business, Management & Leadership Advisory Board. “Certified PMP’s demonstrate mastery of a body of knowledge, but the certification goes beyond that,” she says. “It is also an attestation of character — those who have it show that they can maintain sustained focus and resolve to complete what it takes to become certified. The training and knowledge associated with PMI certification makes for better project managers who are assets to their organizations. Think of it as part of your professional brand.”

Looking to the future, PMI Buffalo will work with Medaille to identify new courses to be offered for Continuing Professional Education (CPE) purposes, utilizing Medaille’s breadth of instructors, courses and campus resources. Both institutions will collaborate to offer joint events and other professional development opportunities with a focus on technical abilities, leadership skills and business acumen.

“We are thrilled to partner with Medaille to provide the PMP training class to our membership,” says President of PMI Buffalo Jeff Manhardt, PMP. “Medaille is committed to meeting the needs of WNY, and is investing in project management as a discipline to grow the skillset and experience of business professionals in our region. This collaboration starts with the PMP certification training class, and is intended to grow into a catalog of educational opportunities for PMI Buffalo members and the community at large.”
