Representatives from Medaille University’s Office of Online Learning and e-learning team attended the Anthology Together 2022 Global EdTech Conference, held in Orlando, Florida, from July 11 to 14, which brings together the most innovative education technology professionals from around the world. Medaille’s Director of Online Learning Mary Beth Scumaci and Instructional Technology Specialist Raymond Drechsel were honored with VIP status at the conference and were inducted into the inaugural Blackboard Ultra Ambassador Program. On July 12, Scumaci and Digital Learning Technologist Julianna Woite also presented a session at the conference, titled “Make ‘em Laugh, Make ‘em Learn: Using Humor & Pop Culture to Keep Students Engaged in Online Learning.”

Scumaci and Woite presented to a full house of education professionals from around the world, offering creative strategies and ideas for integrating pop culture and humor into the online classroom. They included research on humor in education, as well as information on how to connect with Gen Z students in ways that make them feel both inspired and at ease. Attendees were actively engaged in the presentation, sharing experiences and additional ideas for success.

Scumaci and Drechsel were recognized at an Ultra Ambassador Reception at the conference and the Anthology Together Client Advocate Reception, where Anthology CEO Jim Milton provided words of gratitude to all of the ambassadors for their work in the advancement of online education.
