The New York Health Information Management Association (NYHIMA) has recognized 2022 Medaille University health information management (HIM) program graduate Matthew Shields ’22 with its Outstanding Senior Student Award. The NYHIMA Outstanding Senior Student Award is presented annually to a senior in a Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management (CAHIIM) accredited associate or baccalaureate HIM program. Criteria for selection is based on superior scholarship, integrity, initiative, enthusiasm and demonstrated professional potential. The nominee is required to be a NYHIMA student member in good standing who is planning employment in the profession following graduation.

Shields hopes to embark on a HIM-related career path in the information technology field. Lifelong learning is also important to him, and he wants to continue to advance his knowledge, either on his own or through further formal education.

NYHIMA also presents a Clinical Preceptor Award annually to an active member in good standing of NYHIMA. The 2022 Medaille University Clinical Preceptor Award, presented in recognition of the efforts of outstanding clinical preceptors, has been presented to Michael Pagano, who works as the health information manager at Kaleida Health.
