As experts in online learning platforms, Director of Medaille College’s Office of Online Learning Mary Beth Scumaci and Instructional Technology Specialist Raymond Drechsel were invited to present at the 2021 Blackboard BbWorld Global Conference. On July 22, Scumaci and Drechsel presented a session titled “Medaille College Goes Ultra: The Twists, Turns and Triumphs of Our Transition.” Blackboard (Bb) Senior Client Experience Managers Monica Hill and Lisa Clark joined the presentation, as the four-year journey of Medaille’s transition to Blackboard Learn Ultra was discussed, serving as an example of organizational change to attendees from other institutions across the world.
The presentation, which can be viewed online until August 21, included the timeline, tips, pointers and anecdotes of Medaille’s transition to Bb Ultra, as well as feedback from students and faculty who participated in the 2020-21 Bb Ultra pilot experience. In addition to serving as presenters, Scumaci and Drechsel were invited to moderate two Networking Lounge sessions on the topic of transitioning to Bb Learn Ultra.
Starting in the fall 2021 semester, all Medaille College courses (on ground, online and hybrid) will run in the Bb Ultra platform.
Medaille’s Office of Online Learning helps provide an enriching online course experience for the Medaille community by focusing on excellence in online learning, course development and online training initiatives for students, faculty and staff.
In addition to serving as an Instructional Technology Specialist in Office of Information Technology, Drechsel is a Blackboard Certified Trainer and is a part of Medaille’s e-learning team.
