The New York Health Information Management Association has recognized 2022 Medaille University health information management (HIM) program graduate Matthew Shields ’22 with its Outstanding Senior Student Award. Selection for this annual award is based on superior scholarship, integrity, initiative, enthusiasm and demonstrated professional potential.

Medaille University has named nearly 300 students to the Dean’s List for the spring 2022 semester. Undergraduate students who meet the requirements of a minimum of 12 credit hours and who earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for all credit hours carried during that semester are placed on the Dean’s List.

Department of Education Assistant Professor Dr. Christine Woodcock has authored a new e-book for teachers, titled Uniting the Science of Reading and Balanced Literacy With Social Justice. She also served as an author for the newly released edited textbook, titled Handbook of Research on Learner-Centered Approaches to Teaching in an Age of Transformational Change.

On June 20, Dr. Kenneth Macur, president of Medaille University, notified the Board of Trustees that he has made the decision to retire. To assure there is continued strong and committed leadership for faculty, staff and students, Medaille’s Board of Trustees has appointed Dr. Lori V. Quigley interim president of Medaille University, effective immediately.

Living out Medaille’s mission of educating and developing empowered, civic-minded individuals who contribute to a healthy, diverse democracy, students and faculty from Medaille’s clinical psychology doctoral (PsyD) program participated in the March for Our Lives Rally in Buffalo on Saturday, June 11, to advocate for taking action to stop gun violence and to help raise awareness on related mental health topics.

While he acknowledges that it is natural to look for answers and pose tough questions in the wake of tragedy, he urges everyone to use their energy to be part of the solution instead.

On May 17, the New York State Education Department Board of Regents approved an amendment to Medaille’s charter to make the institution a university, effectively immediately. Medaille has begun to launch its transition to Medaille University, with more formal celebrations and unveilings planned for the fall, when the 2022-23 academic year begins.
