Medaille University’s 18th Annual New Student Academic Convocation was held on Saturday, August 27, marking the official start of the 2022-23 academic year. This special ceremony celebrated the official matriculation of the 2022 undergraduate entering class.

Medaille University’s clinical psychology doctoral program (PsyD) has received accreditation from the American Psychological Association (APA), Commission on Accreditation, with a routine contingent status in effect until March 23, 2027. This opens new doors for Medaille’s PsyD students, including eligibility for licensure in all states and access to more competitive internship placements, grants and loan repayment programs.

After several months of negotiations, the Board of Trustees at Medaille University and Trocaire College announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that sets in motion a cooperative agreement that would fulfill the missions of both institutions into the future. There are a number of steps that will take place in the anticipated timeframe of approximately 12 to 18 months for the agreement to be finalized.

This July, members of Medaille’s e-learning team attended the Anthology Together 2022 Global EdTech Conference, which brings together the most innovative education technology professionals from around the world. Director of Online Learning Mary Beth Scumaci and Instructional Technology Specialist Raymond Drechsel were inducted into the inaugural Blackboard Ultra Ambassador Program, and Scumaci, along with Digital Learning Technologist Julianna Woite, presented a session focused on keeping students engaged in online learning.

This June, the Medaille University Department of Business, Management, & Leadership hosted a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership (MAOL) Graduate Programs Informational Networking Event, which brought prospective students, alumni, faculty and staff together on campus.

Medaille University has announced the appointment of Dr. Vochita Mihai as interim vice president for academic affairs and the appointment of Cathy A. Oddo ’82 as interim vice president for enrollment & student services. Both bring several years of experience and expertise to their roles, and both will serve as members of the President’s Senior Leadership Team and Cabinet.

Medaille University has announced the appointment of Kenya K. Hobbs as interim vice president for student development and the promotion of Dr. Mary M. Todd to the position of vice president for institutional effectiveness, research & grants, effective July 1. In their expanded roles, both will serve as members of the President’s Senior Leadership Team and Cabinet, and the Medaille community is grateful for their continued dedication and service.

The New York Health Information Management Association has recognized 2022 Medaille University health information management (HIM) program graduate Matthew Shields ’22 with its Outstanding Senior Student Award. Selection for this annual award is based on superior scholarship, integrity, initiative, enthusiasm and demonstrated professional potential.

Medaille University has named nearly 300 students to the Dean’s List for the spring 2022 semester. Undergraduate students who meet the requirements of a minimum of 12 credit hours and who earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for all credit hours carried during that semester are placed on the Dean’s List.

Department of Education Assistant Professor Dr. Christine Woodcock has authored a new e-book for teachers, titled Uniting the Science of Reading and Balanced Literacy With Social Justice. She also served as an author for the newly released edited textbook, titled Handbook of Research on Learner-Centered Approaches to Teaching in an Age of Transformational Change.
