Vice President for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Kenya Hobbs acknowledges the difficulties and changes the higher education industry has faced over the last couple years. “If life has taught me anything, it is that change is unavoidable,” he says. “Things never stay the same forever, and that is OK. Be determined to face change optimistically, courageously and creatively. Together, we will move onward and upward to greater things.”

Medaille is excited to join the growing Erie County Anti-Stigma Coalition, an organization of local groups committed to ending the stigma surrounding mental health. As such, the College is asking students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends to take the Pledge to End Stigma.

Medaille is excited to announce the completion of Phase II of its sports complex, which will greatly expand the athletic, academic and recreational opportunities available to WNY college students and community members. Completed this past December, the development has added almost seven acres to the already robust site, including new home fields for baseball, softball and field hockey.

In his latest article, Vice President for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Kenya Hobbs asks us all to challenge ourselves and our perspectives as this particularly tough year comes to a close. “In times like these, we need to think about how we can be better to and for each other,” he says. “After all, the energy that it takes to show love or hate is exactly the same, only completely different.”

David C. Greenman has been appointed as vice president for institutional advancement at Medaille College. He will oversee all philanthropy, alumni and community relations for the College.

Vice President for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Kenya Hobbs reflects on how our shared humanity ought to compel us to be more conscious and intentional about how things are said and done. Incidents of racism can be reduced in frequency if we band together, fight injustice, redress wrongs, and address hard and heavy issues.

Department of Science, Mathematics & Technology Chair and Professor of Mathematics Dr. Vochita Mihai has been selected as the recipient of the 2021 Dr. Brian R. Shero Teaching Excellence & Campus Leadership Award. Announced each year at Commencement, this award is presented annually to a Medaille faculty member at Honors Convocation.

On October 22, the Medaille College community came together for the 2021 Honors Convocation to celebrate the academic achievements of Medaille students. The annual tradition also honors scholarship donors and recipients, and includes the presentation of the Dr. Brian Shero Teaching Excellence & Campus Leadership Award.

The Medaille College Board of Trustees has elected two new members to four-year terms after a unanimous vote. Judge James A.W. McLeod and Brandye Merriweather ’07 will serves as trustees from 2021 to 2025.

Medaille President Dr. Kenneth M. Macur was joined by Buffalo Common Council Member Rasheed N.C. Wyatt ’89, ’19, Board of Trustees Vice Chair Michael Moley ’07 and current student Xáneya Thomas to announce the launch of the College’s American Rescue Plan Scholarship, which will help make a college education more accessible to students across New York State.
