Biology students at Medaille will now have 10 acres of land in Amherst to use as a "living laboratory" to study ecology, thanks to a wetland donation made by Frank and Jeanette Levin.

Program Director for Literacy Education Dr. Jennifer Reichenberg spoke at the New York State Reading Association’s Annual Conference in Albany, New York, discussing how Medaille is implementing the International Literacy Association’s revised standards for the preparation of literacy professionals in the College’s M.S.Ed. in literacy program.

Medaille is proud to be a collaborating sponsor for the fifth annual Western New York Children’s Book Expo, which will be held at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 9. This free children’s literacy gathering of local, national and international authors celebrates the importance of reading with children, their teachers and caregivers.

The Medaille and Western New York communities came together to celebrate the grand opening of the Medaille Sports Complex at 427 Elk Street in South Buffalo, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that included remarks from state, city and Medaille officials.

Medaille College administration, faculty and staff members gave back to the Western New York community by volunteering at local organizations, as part of this year’s annual Day of Service events held on July 11 in Buffalo and July 12 in Rochester. Community is one of Medaille’s core values, and the College recognizes community as a coming together of diverse individuals who endeavor to create an inclusive, supportive and collaborative society.

Associate Professor of English Alice Villaseñor, Ph.D., participated in the “Activism and Empathy” Children’s Literature Association Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana, this June. Dr. Villaseñor’s presentation — “A Children’s Literature Service-Learning Project: Developing Students’ Empathy” — outlined her experiences teaching children’s literature courses in partnership with the Buffalo City Mission’s Literacy and Enrichment After-School Program (LEAP) Program.

As part of the newly established Buffalo College Success Network, Medaille College is able to offer increased access, support and opportunities to students from the city of Buffalo, thanks to Say Yes Buffalo and a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Launched in 2012, the Say Yes Buffalo Partnership is a nationally renowned community collective centered on removing barriers to high school graduation, college access and completion. S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications

Medaille has signed three agreements with the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University — a 4+1 program, a 3+1 program and a 30% scholarship agreement — that will take effect immediately and will create new opportunities for communication students.
