Medaille’s students, faculty and staff have come together to help each other navigate remote teaching, learning and working. PsyD student Laurina Van Sloten shares how the support of her professors and classmates have been a comfort amid the chaos of the pandemic.
Julia Khoury is an example of a student who is continuing to work toward her degree during the COVID-19 health crisis. Her story is a direct testament to the impact of donor support, which has helped students continue their academics while maintaining a safe learning environment.

A grant Medaille received through HRSA’s Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training Program allows many of its clinical mental health counseling students who are completing internships with underserved populations to receive $10,000 stipends.
Medaille has donated over 19,000 gloves and nine boxes of surgical masks to the Erie County Sheriff's Office, along with a variety of surgical gloves, face shields, gowns, goggles and nursing caps, in response to the critical shortage of personal protective equipment for local health care providers. College vans are also being used for food deliveries through FeedMore WNY.
In light of the quickly evolving COVID-19 global pandemic, Associate Professor of the Practice Steven M. MacMartin ’13, DBA, director of Medaille College’s bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in homeland security, offers his unique insight on what he and other experts think is necessary to flatten the curve. He includes what precautions the average person should take to help curtail the spread of the virus and to be prepared for quarantine.
