Program Director for Literacy Education Dr. Jennifer Reichenberg spoke at the New York State Reading Association’s Annual Conference in Albany, New York, discussing how Medaille is implementing the International Literacy Association’s revised standards for the preparation of literacy professionals in the College’s M.S.Ed. in literacy program.

This June, Associate Professor of English Dr. Alice Villaseñor participated in the “Activism and Empathy” Children’s Literature Association Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana, speaking about her experiences teaching children’s literature courses in partnership with the Buffalo City Mission’s Literacy and Enrichment After-School Program (LEAP) Program.

Department of Education Chair Dr. Colleen Wilkinson participated in the 2019 Council for Exceptional Children Leadership Institute in Washington D.C. earlier this month, and facilitated discussions about professional development opportunities for New York State educators.

Assistant Professor of the Practice and First-Year Experience Program Director Dr. James Louis Ramsey has been selected to speak at the 2019 Networking in Higher Education Conference, where he will lead a workshop entitled “Teaching Critical Thinking Skills in the Urban College Classroom: A Demonstration.”

Chair of the Department of Science, Mathematics & Technology Dr. Vochita Mihai has been accepted into the 2019-20 StatPREP program, which aims to foster the widespread use of data-centered methods and pedagogies, as Medaille launches bachelor’s degree program in applied mathematics.

In light of Mental Health Awareness Month, Dr. Castro-Blanco describes the importance of mental health awareness, offers insight on handling stress, and speaks about how Medaille’s counseling and clinical psychology programs are addressing a need in the local community.

Dr. Keith Klostermann, an assistant professor in Medaille’s master’s in marriage and family therapy program, has been recognized as a certified trainer in Feedback Informed Treatment, an evidence-based practice for evaluating and improving the quality and effectiveness of behavioral health services.

The second phase of development at the Medaille Sports Complex, slated to be completed in summer 2020, will add a baseball diamond, three softball diamonds, four dugouts, two batting cages, press boxes, scoreboards, and a multipurpose field to the already robust site.

Biology students at Medaille will now have 10 acres of land in Amherst to use as a "living laboratory" to study ecology, thanks to a wetland donation made by Frank and Jeanette Levin.

Medaille is proud to be a collaborating sponsor for the fifth annual Western New York Children’s Book Expo, which will be held at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 9. This free children’s literacy gathering of local, national and international authors celebrates the importance of reading with children, their teachers and caregivers.
