Health Information Management Program Achieves CAHIIM Accreditation
Medaille’s Health Information Management (HIM) program has achieved accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). Graduates and final term students are eligible to register for the national Registered Health Information Administrators (RHIA) credential examination offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
Health Information Management (HIM) is the practice of acquiring, analyzing and protecting electronic as well as paper medical information used in providing patient care. HIM professionals are highly trained in the latest information management technology applications and have an understanding the operational workflow in any healthcare organization. They are essential in the management of health information and electronic health records throughout their healthcare organization.
Health information management professionals work in a variety of settings and hold many job titles. They often serve in bridge roles that connect clinical, operational and administrative functions. In these roles, HIM professionals affect the quality of patient information and patient care in the healthcare delivery cycle. HIM professionals ensure organizations have the correct information when and where it is needed while maintaining the highest standards of data integrity, confidentiality and security.
