Medaille Professor Discusses Drop in National Divorce Rate on Local TV
René A. Jones, M.S., LMFT, a clinical assistant professor in Medaille’s Department of Counseling & Clinical Psychology, recently discussed the decline in the national divorce rate with WKBW-TV. The study by a professor at the University of Maryland identified Millennials as the cause for the drop.
“They are definitely getting married a little bit later than in the 1970s, 1980s and even the 1990s,” Jones says. “And they do have a sense of, ‘Hey, this is who I am, this is how I want to be in the world, and I want to share that with you,’ as opposed to, 'I need to be with you all the time and my identity is with you.’”
