TRiO Alumni Mentor Program Mentor Application

Medaille College’s TRiO Student Support Services Program and the Alumni Association are excited to invite you to participate in our Alumni Mentor Program (AMP). The aim is to foster an exchange of career-related ideas, expertise, and friendship by pairing alumni with current TRiO undergraduate students in order to help them make the most of their college experience, navigate their career decisions, and make professional connections in their field of interest. Mentors and mentees will be matched on a range of criteria, including shared academic interests and experiences, career fields, and similar activities or groups.

Benefits for the Mentor

  • Support the professional development of future leaders
  • Develop a reputation for grooming new talent
  • Enhance coaching and leadership skills
  • Become a part of an expanded professional network
  • Support Medaille College by increasing the likelihood that students will graduate

In order to ensure the success of our program, mentors are expected to give a firm commitment to AMP for at least a full academic year that will require approximately three hours per month. Mentors and mentees will be matched on a range of criteria, including shared academic interests and experiences, career fields, and similar activities or groups at the end of November. All participants MUST attend at least two networking events before being paired with a mentor/mentee. Additionally, new mentors are expected to attend the Mentor/Mentee Orientation.

Other responsibilities and expectations include:

  • Communicate regularly with the staff coordinating the program including a monthly progress update and being active within the LinkedIn group
  • Communicate weekly with mentee via phone, email, text, etc.
  • Meet at least once a month in person with mentee (networking events count)
  • Provide an on-site job shadow visit and/or mock interview with mentee
  • Provide a short (20-30 minute) presentation/workshop on career related topics (creating a professional network, professional etiquette, job/grad school search, salary negotiations and employee benefits, transition from college to career, etc.)
