Marquis “Ten Thousand” Burton is a spoken word poet, educator, curator and Just Buffalo Writing Center teaching artist. Working with Shea’s Performing Arts, C.A.O.(Community Action Organization), Say Yes Buffalo, and other nonprofit and educational institutions, he has taught young writers to discover their voice through poetry while celebrating their stories for more than a decade. Burton has represented Buffalo in the National Poetry Slam for the past decade and has been the official team coach for three years. He has held the position of curator of poetry talent for the Music is Art Festival for the past six years.


The Write Thing Reading Series is sponsored by the Medaille College English Program in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies. All events are free and open to the public and refreshments are served.
